About Mount Longhu National Scenic Area

Mount Longhu National Scenic Area, located in Jiangxi Province near the city of Yingtan, is celebrated as one of the birthplaces of Taoism and a place of deep spiritual and cultural significance. The area is characterized by stunning Danxia landforms—steep, red sandstone cliffs sculpted by wind and water over millions of years—offering striking vertical rock faces and unique geomorphology. The mountain's natural environment includes lush subtropical forests teeming with diverse flora and fauna, with evergreen broadleaf vegetation dominating the landscape. Historically, Mount Longhu is famous for being a key Taoist site where Zhang Daoling, founder of the Way of the Celestial Masters sect, established the first Taoist community in the Eastern Han Dynasty (circa 2nd century AD). Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy well-maintained hiking trails that lead to panoramic overlooks, peaceful valleys, and spiritual landmarks such as the Immortal Valley and Dragon Head Rock. The scenic area also features beautiful rivers and waterfalls, adding to the overall appeal for nature lovers and photographers.
